Brings extensive experience of Teladoc quality initiatives to aid in
shaping the industry
LEWISVILLE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Teladoc,
Inc. (NYSE: TDOC), the undisputed leader in telehealth, providing access
to care for millions, today announced that Henry DePhillips, chief
medical officer, has been named to the newly formed National
Quality Forum (NQF) Telehealth Multi-stakeholder Committee. NQF
leads national collaboration to improve health and healthcare through
measurement and other quality innovation initiatives. Leveraging his
experience driving clinical quality initiatives at Teladoc, Dr.
DePhillips will work closely with the multi-stakeholder NQF committee to
establish a structure for measuring the quality of telehealth encounters
and to identify existing and potential metrics that could be used to
evaluate the quality of telehealth services.
“Establishing a standard of industry-wide measures for telehealth
encounters will be invaluable to the growth and continued success of the
telehealth industry,” said Dr. DePhillips. “At Teladoc, we have been
successfully pioneering the development of clinical protocols tailored
specifically to the delivery of remote care for more than a decade now.
With the industry ready to boom, I am eager to share our expertise in
this journey with the NQF Telehealth Multi-stakeholder Committee and
further establish telehealth as a central, interconnected component of
our healthcare system.”
The NQF Committee will assess the best means of measuring the quality of
healthcare services that incorporate telehealth as the primary delivery
method, and guide the future development of telehealth-related measures.
The Committee will conduct multi-stakeholder reviews of existing and
potential telehealth metrics, identify current measurement gaps, and
develop a measurement framework and a set of guiding principles for
potential future telehealth measurement. This work is funded by the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services.
“Telehealth services are rapidly expanding as they are proven to
significantly improve healthcare access, keep patients healthy, and
eliminate unnecessary hospital admissions,” said Jason Goldwater, senior
director at NQF, who is leading the telehealth project. “It’s important
to assess the quality of telehealth services—just as we assess quality
when patients go to the doctor or the hospital—so that providers can
make ongoing improvements and patients can have information to help
guide their decisions about where and how to get the care they need.”
In addition to Dr. DePhillips’ committee role, Teladoc is an NQF member.
